Bingo is no longer a game for having fun alone. Some families and couples have seen the need to spend a few hours each week to visit a local bingo center to have fun, kill boredom and meet friends as they play their bingo at specified times each week.
That is what happens to Dennis Lewien together with his wife Mona who visit different bingo facilities in Columbus at least three times each week.
Their aim as mentioned is to have fun at a convenient place away from their usual place, home.
When in the club, the Lewiens enjoy playing bingo for about three hours before driving home. They have done this for more than 20 years now, and they do not regret their choice of having fun.
The couple argues that staying indoors for a long time will only add stress to their lives and that the only sure way for them to kill the boredom is to visit different places in Columbus where they sit for a few hours to enjoy what they love.
For a long time they have done so, they have not encountered any problem since they developed a strategy.
The other, day, when playing bingo from Eagles Bingo Club in Columbus, Dennis marked his card, and he won $50. Dennis and Mona are not new to this club; they frequent here every week!
When asked why they choose Eagles Club as the ideal place to play their bingo each week, Dennis agrees that it is not the only casino the couple visits each week but concedes that Eagles Club offers them the conducive environment for their evenings.
“We like getting out from our apartment. It is good for us. Instead of seating there the whole week staring at our four or so corners, we choose to come here to have fun,” Lewien said.
The Lewis are not alone in this. Betty Bogus, another bingo enthusiast, says that she prefers getting out for bingo instead of allowing herself confine in the house.
Bogus says that she started playing bingo many years ago and she still loves playing it.
“It is the only cool place to come and relax as you meet with some regular people who become your friends,” Bogus said.
Bogus adds that it becomes more enjoyable when it turns out that the card you are holding has won you a few dollars.
Another family of a daughter and her mother who have also been attending casinos for many years to play bingo still hold to the practice saying it brings them joy. Ann Brandt and daughter Sue Shaffer say they do not plan to desist from playing bingo soon because it makes them happy. Shaffer says that she is lucky most of the time, yesterday being one of those days.
According to Karen Pennington, the president, and manager of Fraternal Order, an Eagles Club Auxiliary says that the other good side of bingo is that money collected from the business goes to various charitable projects.
Karen points at Cops and Bobbers as well as Lost Creek School (Elementary), as some of the projects that benefit from bingo donations paid by Eagles Club.
